Brad Wiggins – How was he so fast in the Time Trial
Sadly, no Tour de France action today. The first of two rest days the riders have in the world’s toughest sporting event – although most will probably ride 100km+ just to keep their legs from cramping up.
So, Brad Wiggins and Chris Froome both riding for Team Sky were so dominant yesterday. It’s amazing that the top mountain climbers can be so good in the time trial. The old master, Fabian Cancellara (Spartacus) must have been shaking his head in disbelief as Froome and Wiggins both beat his time by significant margins!
Initial I thought it was the Team Sky Skin suit but it was only Chris Froome wearing it as Brad Wiggins had to wear the organiser issued yellow jersey. He does use the optical chain rings and Cancellara doesn’t. Maybe the key point is he is now in the yellow jersey and it just gives you a massive boost. Cancellara may have also been exhausted from defending his seven days in yellow.
If Wiggins and Froome can repeat their form from the Vuelta last year in the mountains of Spain it’s going to be a very interesting next couple of days. I’m expecting to see a lot of Evans clinging on for dear life – just like last years tour. Only this time he’s not going to be able to win it on the last day in the time trial like he did against Andy Schleck last year.
