Claudio Ranieri pulled off an impossible task in the Premier League last season. No wonder the Italian manager is the favourite for the FIFA Coach of the Year award this season.
According to William Hill, Leicester City boss Ranieri is 2/5 to beat the Champions League winning coach Zinedine Zidane (9/1) at the Best FIFA awards ceremony in January 2017. The fairytale run of the Foxes doesn’t seem to be over as they are going very strong in the Champions League and it certainly won’t be a very surprise if they clinch the European trophy this season. Ranieri certainly deserves the award acknowledging his brilliant feat as it is highly unlikely that in near future, we will see a relegation-threatened team lift the league title.
Fernando Santos (4/1), who guided Portugal to Euro 2016 triumph, is also a worthy candidate for the award. It was Portugal’s first major victory in an international competition. However, one can argue that Ronaldo-led side weren’t impressive from the very start of the tournament.
Chris Coleman (12/1), Luis Enrique (20/1) and Pep Guardiola (25/1) are also among the prime candidates for the award ceremony next year.
