The times have changed. Now Wayne Rooney is not the first name on the England team sheet as he used to be a few years ago. The Three Lions skipper will be fighting for the place in the starting line-up alike all the worthy candidates.

England face Scotland on November 11 in the Group F fixture of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Rooney is expected to start and William Hill are offering the odds 1/2 in favour of it and 6/4 against it.

Rooney grabbed two assists for Manchester United in their 1 – 3 over Swansea in South Wales. The United skipper was dropped by Jose Mourinho after a series of below average performances but Rooney has been working hard to impress the Portuguese boss and it is quite evident that the Premier League outfit benefits from the experience and leadership of Wayne Rooney. Rooney can play the same role of a leader in Gareth Southgate’s side on Friday.

According to multiple media reports, Gareth Southgate will be announced as the permanent England boss very soon. If Rooney manages to impress Southgate, he might stay an important figure in the team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
