Manchester United are currently fifth in the Premier League table and their Champions League fate is now in the hands of Swansea, who play host to Pellegrini’s Manchester City. A win or a draw would be enough for the Citizens to clinch the last Champions League up for grabs. However, a defeat on Sunday can allow Van Gaal’s United an opportunity to grab the fourth spot. Although, if United lose they can finish the season at the seventh spot for the second time in three years.
The 20-time English champions traveled to Upton Park on Tuesday but a determined West Ham side beat them 3 – 2 in their last match at the stadium. It was a dramatic match in which both the teams made a comeback but the Hammers came out on top at the end of normal time.
United’s league form is far superior than their opponents on Sunday. Bournemouth have won one and lost four of their last six league fixtures in contrast to United who have won three and drawn one. However, in their last league meeting, Bournemouth beat the Premier League giants 2 – 1 in December 2015.
It is believed that Louis van Gaal will be sacked at the end of the season if Manchester United fail to book a Champions League spot on Sunday. Also, an announcement of Jose Mourinho’s appointment could be made following United’s FA Cup final match against Crystal Palace on May 21st.
